What a weekend!

Wow!  What a weekend!  Am I wrecked or what?  The Nationals of course!  Two days of emotion, tension, excitement, joy and despair all rolled into one great shooting fest!  And what can I say about the results?  I think our club did very well thank you.  Congratulations to Shane and Jim in Men's air rifle.  Congratulations to Susan, Liz and Tara in Ladies air rifle and congratulations to Susan, Laura and Tara in the Juniors!

Our pistol shooters Tim, Mark and Donal were a bit off form but still acquitted themselves with honour on the day!

We are especially proud of Colm who despite a major technical disaster at the start of the final, held his nerve and shot well (albeit without sights in effect).

Tara shot very well in the Ladies final and managed to pass out Laura and take the bronze medal.

The match was very well attended and it ran extra smoothly.  We submitted a challenge to one of Liz's scores but the complaint was not up held.

The pistol match and final were very close and the scoring is getting better.  Congratulations to Peter Friend who won the gold and to Joe and John.

From my perfectionist' point of view, our preparation for this match was a bit ropey.  Nevertheless, now is the time to focus on the next big event.  We plan to take a team over to the Welsh National's in Oct next.  So let's get down to it and start training.

Congratulations and well done again to all our members who took part.

Committee Meeting NO 3
Written by Geoff Cooney
Wednesday, 15 April 2009 22:41

Another full meeting last night with a lot of material covered.  The meeting opened with looking over the minutes of the previous meeting and discussing a few items that came up.  Each of the Officers gave a brief report on current items.  Some of the items discussed referred to 'membership pathways' into the club and how we could better streamline access to the club.  Various points were raised and better use of the web site was mooted. The use of video clips and photos on the web site was suggested also both in terms of showing visitors what we do and also for training purposes.

A revamp of the web site was discussed as well as other PR projects including a newsletter were also put forward.  A social trip to Tullamore is being looked at, as is a visit to an Archery competition, fact finding missions!

The main point of the meeting was to look at how we can develop our coaching and training potential.  As a precursor to this topic we looked at opening times for the club which would be available to show potential new members around.  It was felt that the range would be open each night for this, except Monday's, which would be reserved for members training. Members would have access to the range at all other times also.  Non members wishing to visit the range to see what we do out side of these times will be able to do so but only by prior arrangement.

The second part of the discussion on training focused on the further development of our new Instructors. The need to get our Instructors up to speed quickly with developing training sessions and looking at developing a training course was stressed and all present were asked to commence, with all haste, this task.

In keeping with our desire to end all meetings at 9.30pm. We accepted that items will need to be revisited later but that progress was being made.  Social activities and fundraising are the main topics for our next meeting which will be held in two weeks time.

Mark has informed us that activity on our web site has increased considerably, so thank you all for visiting, please come back

and keep your ideas coming in.

Best of luck to our shooters in the upcoming matches including the Nationals, we wish you all well!
