WTSC 10m Airgun Open

October 11/12 2008

WTSC, Wilkinstown, Co.Meath

Five Details:

Saturday 11th 1700

Sunday 12th 0900, 1100, 1330, 1530

Four competitions:

10m Air Rifle Men

10m Air Rifle Women

10m Air Rifle Juniors

10m Air Pistol

The Junior's match will be shot concurrently with either 10m Men or 10m Women's air rifle, and will consist of the first forty competition shots in those matches. Air pistol does not as yet have a junior section or classes due to the numbers involved.

Entry fee is €15 (€10 for juniors and students)

There are only 25 slots available in total (one hospital bay is being reserved on each detail) and four competitions, so pre-booking is essential. Booking closes on Wednesday October 8th at 1700h. No bookings will be accepted after that date (and you know I'm an inflexible sod on things like this, right?).

Unfortunately our online booking system is still teething, so all bookings should be sent by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or by SMS or phone to 0857747546; or by posting a comment here or on the Bebo page or by PM on boards or... well, you get the idea. Contact myself (if you contact Geoff he has to pass it on to me and someone else may get your slot beforehand by coming direct to me).

Prizes will be given out for first, second and third in each competition, and for first, second and third in each class in air rifle; there will be a spot prize of €100 for any 100/100 series shot in the match; all medals will be awarded at the club's Medals Night later this year, and certificates will be awarded on the day .

New Boss
Written by Mark Dennehy

Don and Geoff just got a new straw boss for the 30m field (hopefully Don won't shoot straight through this one with his new kit :D )

30m Field

And we had Tara and Sarah out this Sunday giving a lot of advice for the club and coaching for the archers, and as soon as I can lift my arms again, I'm hoping we can put it to use!

Archery is hopefully going to become a larger part of the club in the coming years, and while we're still at baby steps level right now, we're hoping for a bright future. But we think the koreans are safe for at least six more months...

We're going to make this sunday afternoon time a regular thing for the archery as well; so see you next Sunday, 1400h (2pm for those with boring watches :D).

Beginners Courses

There's been some queries about the beginners courses recently, so I thought I'd write a small bit about them. Membership of our club is open to anyone, but for those who haven't ever shot before, our "show up and say hi" approach has not really been of as much use as it could have been. We were thinking about it at the start of the summer and what we basicly decided was that the problem was that folks who have never tried shooting before haven't any idea what's involved, what has to be done to try it out, what kit you have to bring, how long it takes and how much it costs to learn, and so on. So we were looking closely at the idea of a beginners course. And then we discovered that Archery does this already (you can't join an archery club without doing a beginners course). So we've gone ahead and drafted Geoff to do a beginners course for the club. And our first one is just wrapping up at the moment and the second and third ones are already filling up with applicants.

Some basic facts:
